November Book Releases I Need to Get My Hands On

For the past several months, I haven’t been paying too much attention to new releases. I’ve been sticking to what’s interesting me in the moment and what’s available to me. I’ve been picking my way through some of the stacks of books around my apartment while taking more time to do other things. This wasn’t always by choice–I had been having a lot of trouble concentrating on books and spent more time watching shows than reading. However, I think that I’m over the hump of that slump (rhyme allllllert) and I’m ready to cozy up and read. Here are three November book releases that I can’t wait to get my paws on.

I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff by Abbi Jacobson

Hardcover, 320 pages
Published October 30th 2018 by Grand Central Publishing

Okay so teccccchnically this one came out at the end of October… BUT just at the very end so I’m going to count it. And my hold hasn’t come in at the library yet. So, the anticipation is still building! I, like all sensible humans, am obsessed with Broad City. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer both created and star in it. They are beautiful and hilarious humans and every episode of Broad City is a treat. In the spring I had the pleasure of hearing Abbi speak about this book at Book Expo in New York. I was so fucking starstruck. She is hilarious and rambly and obsessive and a workaholic and I want to have that in book form. Now.

My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

Hardcover, 240 pages
Expected publication: November 20th 2018 by Doubleday Books

I have heard nothing but raves about this one from fellow Book Rioters. Everyone seemed to be reading ARCs of it the summer and they got me very eager to check it out. It sounds funny, clever, and scary thrilling. What’s it about, you ask? Two sisters in Nigeria, one of whom has a penchant for killing her boyfriends. Not only do I love a good thriller and a sociopathic serial killer… I LOVE lady villains. Not just your token “strong female protagonist.” I want me some complex ladies. GIMME MORE LADY VILLAINS. Anyway. I can’t wait to see how this one plays out.

How Long ‘Til Black Future Month?: Stories by NK Jemisin

Hardcover, 400 pages
Expected publication: November 27th 2018 by Orbit

I am not 100% sure what this one is about exactly, other than Jemisin’s take on society through stories imbued with science fiction and fantasy. I totally adored her Hugo Award-winning Broken Earth series and I’m excited to dive more into her backlist–but this one sounds too good to pass up. I can’t wait to see what she’s come up with now. She’s so amazing. I was also lucky enough to meet her at Book Expo in the spring. And again, so fucking starstruck.
