It’s summertime, and that means the perfect opportunity to grab a book and head to the beach! Or a park bench–that’s my go to. I love reading outside. It’s one of my favourite things to do in the summer. And spring. And fall. Basically just weather permitting I like to read outdoors. Not only so, but because summer feels like a lounge-in-the-sun type of time, there are tons of books on my TBR that I want to tackle. There are six titles in particular that fit with my mood right now and that I’ve been meaning to get to. Without further ado, here is my summer reading list 🙂
Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower by Brittney Cooper
Book Riot did this title for their last Persist book club and the tidbits I heard sounded amazing. Like, this hook from the publisher: “So what if it’s true that Black women are mad as hell? They have the right to be. In the Black feminist tradition of Audre Lorde, Brittney Cooper reminds us that anger is a powerful source of energy that can give us the strength to keep on fighting.” I MUST READ THIS.
What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
I was lucky enough to grab a copy of this at Book Expo and get it signed (thanks Leah!). This book sounds like a great summer read, especially for Pride–which is right now in my city! With Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera teamed up this book, it promises to be hella cute. This one comes out in October 9th from HarperTeen!
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
I received a review copy of this one from Random House Canada in the winter. When it came out, I heard tons of great things about it from fellow readers and reviewers alike! I’ve honestly not heard a bad thing about it. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in this genre–lately I’ve been reading mostly YA, mystery, and poetry–so maybe that’s why I haven’t picked it up. I’d really like to get to it this summer!
The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde
This one is the title I think I’m going to read first! It’s another one that’s fitting for Pride and I loved Wilde’s Queens of Geek. Right now I’m totally in the mood for a fun YA contemporary about rock stars with a bisexual MC. So. Up. My. Alley.
Bingo Love by Tee Franklin
Another one that’s a perfect fit for Pride! I snagged a copy of this adorable comic at Book Expo and I can’t wait to read it. It’s a decades-long love story between two women who meet at a bingo hall in the ‘60s. It looks super cute!
This Fallen Prey (Casey Duncan #3) by Kelley Armstrong
This is another title I’ve had a review copy for a few months and I somehow haven’t gotten around to reading it. I love Kelley Armstrong’s mysteries, and really enjoyed the first two books in this series. I don’t know why, but I just haven’t been in the mood to pick it up yet! I think we all know by know that I’m moody as hell when it comes to reading. Oh well. I think this one sounds like an thrilling summer read so I’m hoping to pick it up ASAP!
