Every now and again, I like to do a tag or a survey because they’re fun! I don’t usually get tagged in them and never really tag anyone back (just not my jam), but I still think they’re fun and love to see other people’s answers. If you’re reading this and you’re interested in doing it too, do it! And post a link in the comments so I can check it out! I saw this tag on Nicola Reads YA, and I thought I’d give it a go. It’s always so interesting to me to see other people’s reading preferences and habits. Without further ado, here is the 20 questions book tag!
How many books is too many books in a series?
This one is variable for me. In general, I don’t love series. I prefer a really good stand alone. However, a solid trilogy is my go-to if I like it and it must be a series. But then again, I read Kelley Armstrong’s Cainsville series as it came out, and five books just wasn’t enough for me. So, again, variable!
How do you feel about cliffhangers?
I think they are stupid and should die.
Hardback or paperback?
I prefer to read a paperback but own a hardback. Unless it’s a favourite or on sale, I usually go for the paperback though because it’s cheaper.
Depends on the day. I have a Jane Eyre tattoo though, so maybe I’ll go with that.
Least favourite book?
If I really don’t like a book, I’m probably not going to finish it. That being said, I did read a book a couple years ago that I thought was… not good. I was really hyped for it because I love Kelley Armstrong, but I guess her YA just isn’t for me. I really didn’t like The Masked Truth and you can read all about it in my review.
Love triangles, yes or no?
Sometimes they’re pretty tedious. I find this a lot in YA romance. But if they’re well executed, a good love triangle can be awesome for adding tension.
The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?
The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I may finish it yet. I’m currently in a reading slump.
A book you’re currently reading?
I’ve been reading a lot of poetry lately. Right now I’m digging A Psalm for Us by Reyna Biddy. I also just started reading Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado and it’s pretty delightful and weird.
Last book you recommended to someone?
This morning I told my friend that he should read Nayyriah Waheed’s poetry collection Salt (as should you all).
Oldest book you’ve read?
The Bible probably lol
The newest book you’ve read?
I recently read I’m Afraid of Men by Vivek Shraya and that’s not out til August.
Buying books or borrowing books?
I prefer to own books but I don’t like spending money. So.
A book you dislike that everyone seems to like?
I read A Court of Thorns and Roses when it came out and found it pretty cringey, but I don’t think I’m alone in that.
Bookmarks or dogear?
I never never never never never never never dog ear, YOU MONSTER.
A book you can always re-read?
Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I don’t re-read very much (never), but I read this one three times!
Can you read whilst hearing music?
I can always block out background noise if the book is good enough.
One POV or multiple POV’s?
This is highly dependent on the story. Generally I prefer one POV, but sometimes multiple POVs works better for a story.
Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
Again this is highly dependent! If it’s not too long and I have the time and inclination I may read it in one sitting. Usually though it takes a few sittings.
One book you read because of the cover?
I’ve definitely picked up books based on their cover, but I don’t know that I’ve read one strictly because of it. I’m a terribly moody reader so if I’m not feeling it, I’m not reading it. Right now I think my favourite cover is Wild Embers by Nikita Gill!
