Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love—all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may be telling you only half the story.
Welcome to Christine’s life.

Each morning when Christine awakes, life begins anew for her. She is faced with an overwhelming wave of information that shakes her to the core. She is married, and has been for two decades. This strange place is her home. She is not in her twenties like she thinks. She’s not even in her thirties—she is forty-seven years old. She does not even recognize her own face, let alone those in the photographs around her mirror, or that of the man in her bed.

A severe trauma in her past injured her brain and fractured her memories. Now, she cannot retain any memories after a deep sleep. She only knows what this man, Ben—her husband—tells her. But how does she know he’s telling her the truth if she can’t even remember him the next day?

This book was a pleasure to read. I think Dennis LeHane describes it best in his quote on the back cover of the book: “Memento on crystal meth.” It truly is. It’s a crazy tale of a woman with a rare form of amnesia trying to put the pieces of her life back together. To remind herself of who she is, her memento in this book is her journal. There are so many spine-tinglingly creepy twists and turns in this book that I couldn’t put it down. I’m sure if thought about it too much I might have been able to figure the ending out, but what’s the fun in that? I let myself get swept up by the mystery of the story, following along with Christine in her journey to the truth. This is definitely a great read, and I recommend it to everyone who loves a good thriller!
