Recommended Reads for October

Looking for something to read to get you in the Halloween spirit? Fuelled by Fiction recommends some reads that are sure to get your spine tingling and your heart racing.

The master of horror is a must when it comes to a list of thrillers and chillers. In this novel, one of my favourites by King, novelist Thad Beaumont is trying to say goodbye to his pen name George Stark. However, writing violent thrillers under the name George Stark is what has paid Thad’s bills. Getting rid of him won’t be as easy as it sounds… Because what do you do when your “dark half” takes on a life of its own?

This novel is filled to the brim with both thrills and chills, and would certainly get you in a spooky mood (but you just might need to sleep with the lights on).

Chevy Stevens’ best selling debut, Still Missing, tells the story of realtor Annie O’Sullivan and her abduction. Stevens tells this tale through Annie’s sessions with her
therapist as she tries to come to terms with the year she spent captive, and pick up the pieces of her life. This mystery/thriller will keep you on your toes as it takes you through unexpected twists and turns. (Don’t forget to lock your doors.)

This psychological thriller is an absolute must. Not only is it a great read, but the film adaptation hits theatres on Halloween! Make sure you read it first!  “‘As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me…‘ Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love — all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story. Welcome to Christine’s life.”

Libby Day is now in her thirties. She has been drifting through life ever since that fateful day when she was seven. Her family was murdered, and her brother Ben was sent to prison. But not everyone is convinced of Ben’s guilt. Some people who believe Ben is innocent contact Libby, and set in motion a series of a revelations that will change Libby’s life forever. Now, she has to find the truth. And it’s not going to be easy.
(Be prepared for your mind to be messed with!)

David Ullman is a professor of literature, specializing in Milton’s Paradise Lost. One day, his life gets turned upside down. Although he spent his days immersed in Milton, he never truly believe in the supernatural. That is, until he takes his daughter to Venice and comes face to face with mystery that is clearly not of this world. His daughter has been taken, and the key to finding her lies in supernatural truth in Paradise Lost.
(Demons. Yep, demons.)

With the movie release, this popular book has become even more popular. It’s a psychological thriller that messes with your brain from page one. Be prepared to be on the edge of your seat until the very last word.

Here are some spooky books that are on my TBR (to-be-read) for October! (Click the images to read more about them on Goodreads!)

Happy Reading!
(Remember to lock your doors, keep your nightlight on, don’t talk to strangers, don’t anger the demons or your pen name, and have your trusty guard dog/cat at the ready! Did I miss anything?)
